The shy, studious but dropdead gorgeous girl stole many hearts with her debut film. A chance family dinner in the Roshan's house bagged her the role, which shot her overnight into the glamour and glitz of Bollywood. More success followed in with Gadar Ek Prem Katha, which ended up being the biggest blockbuster of 2000 and won her the Filmfare Special Performance Award.

Her name is a blend of the first names of her parents – Amit and Asha. A trained Bharatnatyam dancer since the age of five, she studied in Cathedral and John Connon High School in Mumbai and then went on to be the Gold Medalist in Economics in Tufts University in Massachusetts. In the tinsel town, she is one of the few beauties with brains.
Her dream run the Bollywood though did not last for long as a few of her subsequent flicks fell through in the box office. But by then she has already established herself as an accomplished actress with a number of critically acclaimed roles in her kitty. Her role in Humraaz brought her another Filmfare nomination in 2002. She has also modeled for well-known Indian brands like Bajaj Sevashram, Fair & Lovely, Cadburys, Jai Lime, Fem, Lux to name a few.
