| The future is us... we can make a difference! | |||
Hi everyone! :) This is my tiny step into this labyrinth of virtual space. And, this being a blog, I think my first entry in it should be something that is very close to my heart and what I feel very strongly about — our environment.
Now don’t worry, am not going to get all preachy and do an imitation of your 5th Std Social Studies teacher. Nor am I going to start a “Green chaddi” movement or anything! Just putting forward a few thoughts on something that’s such a huge part of our lives, something that rules and dominates our lives every second — yet, somehow, which seems to be the last thing we think about ( i.e if we think about it at all!).
No really, how many of us intelligent people give a thought to simple acts like wastage of water, food, pollution through burning of fuel from our cars, etc? We take immense care of our homes, maintain them and try to make them more beautiful and comfortable for ourselves. Do we not consider our planet to be our home? Do we really want to live in a world where we have Tsunamis, earthquakes and uncharacteristic weather?
Okay, forget the planet for a moment, take our country India, for instance. For centuries we’ve been known to be tremendously gifted with our land. India is one of the richest civilizations in the world, and we Indians are known for our love of our soil! But somewhere on our way to modernisation, we have been losing the very essence and spirit that we should be proud of — that is our culture that teaches us to love and respect nature and nurture it.
Now, lemme come to my pet peeve — plastic, especially plastic bags! They have so become a part of our daily lives. “They’re convenient, light and we can just throw them away,” is the argument I get when I ask people not to use plastic bags. Not to mention the blank stares when I go up to counters in shopping malls and request them not to use plastic bags. Now let me ask you all one question. Do you know that plastic cannot be destroyed? So you just can’t throw plastic bags away and forget about them — plastic is non-biodegradeable!
Another question: Recycling can fix this, right? Wrong! Recycling rates for plastic bags are extremely low. Only one to three per cent of plastic bags end up getting recycled. In addition, the economics of recycling plastic bags is not appealing. And if the economics don’t work, recycling efforts won't work either. The only way is to stop using them!
We all have the opportunity to make a difference every day, everywhere. The future is here and we are it! So let’s all start now. What say?

CLOTHES DISTRIBUTION DAY
31 DECEMBER 2009
Dear Concerned,
Social service -the most frequently chanted mantra and performed prayer has in fact become the life breath of society today. Every day records the birth of a new organization/philanthropist dedicating themselves to the same cause and the needy have remained needy inspite of all these efforts.
Organizations for service must be coupled with individuals rendering service.Let us Share and Let us Serve eventually Share A Service.Share A Service is a movement which is not an organization for service but does organized service it is not taken forward by a leader but is a our own innate strength which leads our soul to serve society.
Clothes distribution day 2007 and 2008 have created a reference that given an opportunity every human being renders substantial support for a social cause. Growing from humble beginnings in the year 2007 in Hyderabad The Clothes Distribution Day spread its wings wide in 2008 to attain the status of a National event. Now again in this year 2009 is calling one and all to transform a 0.01% of our self centered nature towards building someone else’s life. The target needy are one and a half crore of people.
WHY DECEMBER 31?
This is a global event wherein people the world over celebrate the day by welcoming the new year and bid adieu the old year. This is a transition date.We prepare ourselves for the new year by discarding all the negative that has not made us happy and take up the positive which will make our life happy secure and comfortable.
Share A Service as a part of the offline projects has systematically worked on the basic needs food clothing and shelter. Food and shelter is an ongoing round the year ongoing project and to render proper justice to it ,the clothes aspect is focused during the months of October to December.A minimum of 6 to 8 pairs of clothes are required by a person for the duration of a year. If these are donated to him/her at the beginning of the year then the rest of his time, energies and resources could be focused to his other basic needs. If all those people who can afford an unused dress in the coming year could pause and collect a used pair and donate it to someone who wishes to wear a new dress but cannot afford it then YOUR OLD DRESS CAN BECOME SOMEONE ELSE’S NEW DRESS in the new year.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
-Donate used clothes.
-Set up a collection point in your garage/ store room/office/ apartment/institution /workplace for your colony.
-Volunteer at your nearest collection point to sort out the collected clothes.
- Spread the message to your friends, acquaintances, known circle.
-Have a promotional poster set up at a prominent place of your area.
-Send out the e-invite to your colleagues/employees and place the appeal on the notice board of your establishment.
-Conduct a collection drive in your organization and donate the clothes on behalf of your organization.
-Provide information about the needy who require the clothes .

Ankur Manchanda:
Hi Asin, 1st of all i'd like 2 congratulate u 4 taking up such an issue.
I totally agree with u, even i have noticed people wasting the available resources like water, electricity, fuel etc..........& i'm not talking abt just any people bt well educated and sophisticated people.
i find it hard to beleive that how ignorant we people are and that too knowing the crisis that we face day in day out. And at the end of the day we grumble about shortage of electricity and water and all that stuff.
We shouldn't feel helpless and be a mere spectator just to watch things fly out of proportion making this situation go bad to worse.
Together we have to take an initiative, not losing hope and believing that every individual can make a difference.
So i urge all of you 2 play your bit in conservation of our resources and avoid use of poly bags and spread awareness.........................bcoz u have the POWER!!!..........power 2 make a difference.

Sandip Hazra:
your thought seems to be be grate
but
It is quite difficult to withdraw the plastic................. it is not only duty of our only... but the shop keeper and the big retail chain market , and shopping mall (for which u endosed also) should come forward to destroy the use of plastic
