Description :
Twenty-five years on, the victims of Bhopal Gas Tragedy are still battling for compensation. The verdict of Madhya Pradesh High Court on the eve of its 25th anniversary (3rd Dec), which denied the demand for an adequate compensation, has crushed the victims’ quest for justice.
The Centre got into a settlement with the company without the victims’ consent and the company got away with paying a meager Rs 713 crore (at 1989 prices) on the assumption that only 3,000 persons had died and 1,05,000 were injured. The actual figures were at least five times more.

Are we living in a Banana Republic?
Warren Anderson, the then chairman of Union Carbide, got almost an instant bail after he was arrested on Dec 7, 1984 from Bhopal. He was flown to Delhi by a state Govt plane and allowed to flee the country.
A non-bailable warrant against him is pending in the lower courts.
He is scot free till date running his buisness in US.
Who were responsible for letting him flee?

A Supreme Court verdict (2007) had asked the victims to approach the state govt for compensations, but the order of the MP High Court put it back to square one.
The victims have decided to knock the doors of the Supreme Court again. Let us join hands with them. Our demands are:
– Adequate compensation for the victims
– The guilty be brought to book
Raise your voice against injustice.
