I think you can call them cheap show coz most of the festivals are full of nudity and cheap thrills, resta re either violent or horrifying.

If tent doesn't count then he really has left worldly possessions.

Send him to UN as India's representative.

Ha ha ha. Good idea. He will scare the hell out of our nemeses who will wonder what kind of new nuclear weapon he is carrying.

Running away from responsibilities can never be counted as bravery. If sadhus are called brave then all the people who commit suicide because they can not face the hardships of life must also be called brave.

Looking at the picture of this sadhu makes me wonder if it is the picture of a caveman or a man of nuclear powered India.

At the bottom of this page, someone wrote " They are brave people who dare to leave past all luxuries and follow a path less known to humans". What is bravery in shunning your reposibilities and duties towards your parents, family and society? It is pure cowardice and selfishness that someone will turn away from it all for his own gain. They don't tuen away from chilam (smoking pipe) and ganja.

From appearance this sadhu in picture looks that he has never missed a single meal. Where do these free-loaders get all that from? I suppose from the gullibles and people of blind faith.

A hard working laborer wouldn't look that healthy nor his children.

Does the picture of that naked ash covered sadhu represents India of 21st Century?

These sadhus may have left behind or sacrificed worldly possessions but they have not sacrificed the greatest thing of all "EGO". They demand their right to be the first ones to take a dip or as it is known as the Royal Bath in Kumbh Mela. How Royal one could be and what kind of sacrifice is it when you demand to be recognized above the rest?

It reminds me a very old song "Bhes badla to kya hua, dil ka badalna chahiye".

These sadhus are a shame for a progressive country like India. What a waste of manpower. Wether they eat less or more, they do nothing even for that less. They are mooching on the gullibles.

So What
So What

When I was 6 years old, a half naked sadhu used to come to our door. Mother always gave him food and money. Then the frequency of visits increased. Mother had a great respect for him. I heard him mumbling words that I could not understand and I don't think mother did either because many times I asked her what he was saying but she could never tell. Slowly mother started feeding him in house. When father learned about it he admonished mother and asked her to stop it. Even after father's stern words mother did not send the sadhu empty handed.

One day I was playing outside the house with other children when I heard mom's cries. I alongwith other children ran in. I found mom's blouse ripped, her one breast bare. Seeing us the sadhu ran out of the open door.

My dadi ji (grandmother) had great trust in sadhus, would touch their feet with her forehead..
Greed and studpidty got the upper hand when a sadhu she had met in temple many times, offered to double her jewellery and money. She collected her jewellery in a bag, went to the temple and put the bag on sadhu's feet. She was asked to repeat few 'shlokas' and then to keep silence (maun sadhna). When she opened her eyes the sadhu was nowhere to be found. The bag was also gone.

Look at the picture of that half-naked sadhu. What is he doing for the country? I have respect for those who toil the soil and produce fruits, vegetables and grains for masses. I have respect for those who pave the roads to make a living. But I have no respect for those who leave their families, society and responsibilities to attain whatever they think they are attaining be it spiritual or open use of marijuana, hashish and alcohol in the name of faith. These are selfish people. Every religion has that kind of horde.

These sadhus didn't leave their homes and families for nudity show. They are brave people who dare to leave past all luxuries and follow a path less known to humans, till date. Its a determined job to eat less, drink less and concentrate on spirituality till last breath.

Time Stopped

These sadhus and swamis are nothing but leeches, a burden to the society, living on other's money and food. They do nothing for the country nor for the society. When it comes to take a holy dip on a 'auspicious day' they do not hesitate to spill blood for their first right. Viloence is nothing new to them nor they miss an opportunity of having carnal pleasures. Smoking hash and pot is their pleasure. Their devotees are usaully poor, helpless or people who are not of sound minds due to financial or health problems. There are millions of such people in India who are doing nothing constructive.

Shahi Snans / Royal Baths - One of the main events of the Kumbha (Kumbh) Mela is the holy dip in river Ganga (Ganges) on auspicious days to wash away ones sins leading to the liberation from the circle of life & death

The Sadhus and Sanyasis are given preference over others. The lay pilgrims can bathe only after the ascetics have taken the holy dip... SO its not a cheap event or some free show!
