Indians are a bunch of out of form players. The cricket board feels and think that certain people must represent the team with all its regional and other pre-set interests. Iv been in Melbourne for less than a year now.. n there has'nt been a single nite that ma friends or family have'nt gotten in touch wid me askin about the situation there..
Jusyest i got a cal from ma mom askin me to control ma frustrations n not to get involved in such drastic measures...
M totally pissed... u guys wont believe it but its just a minority group here in Oz.. they r referred to as junkies.. u know the typical teenagers wid hooded jackets... stoned to the core.. usually in groups... armed wid knives.. n not afraid to stab u!! how can u e1 fight back against these guys..
The original Oz inhabitants, the "aboriginals" are proud of the indians coz we r the only ones that have actually retaliated back to these kinda attacks here in some form or the other.. b it the media or now these attacks... they were the initial victims.. then the Greeks, then the lebanese.. n now us..
its not the junkies that r scary.. the very fact that the legal system here is not at all supportive.. i mean the discrimination starts rite from there!! D media covers up all such news.. we get to know about such attacks from friends n families back home..
The Victorian premier, during his visit to India, stated that Victoria is safe for Indian students, i say.. balls..
International students fees (Indians rank second only to China) is the second largest contributor to the Oz GDP.. n he'l say any crap to continue the keep it that way.. whereas here in Oz... frankly speakin nothin is done at all.. d streets are as scarier as they were b4..
now post recession, the job opportunities have further decreased.. n the visa conditions have become e1 more stringent, the students that have passed out in the last semester are worst affected due to the restrictions in their visa.. first of all there are no jobs n neither working rights!!
We end up workin as cab drivers or cleaners.. with all our MBA's n the big Masters degrees.. spending lacs of Rupees in d hope of a bright future.. where's the justice..
I would support the retaliation.. jus bcoz nothin has been done till date.. but then.. this kinda retaliation is gonna fire back on us!! Thats a given!!
Anyway.. i wud'nt recommend Oz to any Indian student aspiring further education abroad.. Cancel ur plans immediately.. Coz here.. u wud never know wen its ur turn!!

My family moved to Melbourne when i was 2 years old, and having been here close to 20 years, and being a student at the moment, i dont believe that the violence is targeted at indians or international students, however melbourne seems to be having a sub-culture of violence, many other ethnics as well as australians hav been bashed, even a football legend (Ron Barassi) was bashed on new years eve in a drunken brawl.
I, in fact, felt more vulnerable in the streets of mumbai, being abused by a group of thugs because they didnt like my accent. hypocrisy much?

Fight Back or not fighting back have their pros & cons and it is like people in the field would exactly know how to respond to any particular situation. Would you justify "fighting against Jats & Gujjars in Gurgaon, just because some of them are more easy with their arms".

Indian Aussie Mamta, yes my view of Indian/international student getting bashed is just as sharp. No one in this world should get bashed because of their gender, race, beleif etc. There is a sub-culture of violence on the streets of Melbourne and the local authorities are aware of this and concerned.
Some overseas students do get targetted, but that is mainly because they are soft targets and not due to their country of origin. I also studied in Australia, and there was crime in the neighbourhood where we used to live.
What about the bashings as part of the ragging that happens in some of the hostels around in India? What do people have to say about that?

It is totally justified, since there were no major steps taken by either Australian or Indian government. Tolerance is also has its limit and if someone try to cross this limit then it has to pay for the consequences. Australian people are the people who are originally thrown out of Britain due to their criminal background and so these people will only understand such type of language and should be treated the same way like they had been treated by their British ancestors .... here we should not think like we must act like Gandhiji and all .... But since after repeated attacks on India no concrete steps were taken by Australian goverment, this was perhaps the best response Indians who were together could give. My only remorse is that the injuries to the Australians were minor. They should have been as brutal as they inflicted on Indians.

Most of the attacks on Indian are done by Immigrants from Lebenon etc. Indian Media is creating too much of hype to make 24hours news otherwise its much safe and better here. First we should look into our own backyard as Indians within India are beaten because of their background just like its happening in Maharashtra. Suchin Suchin Errol, going by what you say, why the hell white people moved to Australia from England? people move in search of opportunities, but u have to bear the consequences. So the immigrants have 2 options, return as the opportunity was hazardous or fight it and prevail. there is nothing like being ashamed of the country of origin. u aussies displaced the ab originals and prevailed.
