Topic owner: Hemal Ka: When somebody asks you about your nationality and you reply it as "Indian" there is sudden change in expression saying 'oh I see' (Not from everybody I guess).
You won't get this surprise reaction if you say name of some less known or poorer country like Cyprus, Cuba, Latvia, Uruguay or Bhutan.
Some people don't actually hate you but are just trying to relate to some other Indian acquaintances or somebody they knew few years ago.. But most of them think you as poor, dirty and illiterate (Thanks to the Oscar winning movie) or something else which I could never find out.
Why there is general trend to hate Indians? I agree we have our faults but that's present in every community. Maoris, aborigines and Lebos are rather more intimidating and quarrelsome (just an example nothing personal against them). We have most successful Australian and crappiest Australian too.
I once asked why you hate Indians so much? The answer was Indians are very secretive and you can't get anything out of them. An Unsatisfactory answer. So many people don't even know why they hate Indians. So is it just a fashion to say we hate Indians.

Look at the farmer suicides, the millions of people living in cardboard houses, defecating on railway tracks, look at the school-going kids that can't so much as complete basic mathematics or read a paragraph.
