Well all this W omen's day wishes and empowerment speeches and discussion, only sound good. The truth is things have not really changed.
I come under the single, urbane and doing good for herself category and live in a metro, but till day when I go to a bar all by myself, i have to bear all those questioning and accusing eyes,,,
People still feel, if you are going to a pub alone, you must be from the 'I am available, take me with you circle'
I know it sounds trivial in front of other larger issues of women, but all i am saying is we still need a change in attitude.
This is not a trivial issue. It is indicative of the fact that society thinks women cannot exercise their will, cannot behave like human beings. Indeed, the shock over women drinking or smoking, or spending the night alone in a bar, is disgusting. Women are entitled to do what they wish, just as men are. Anyway, it's very common to see women smoking or drinking today, and yet people continue to be shocked. Sick.
I went for my cousin's wedding in Ambala, felt like having a drink, I went to the bar at the baraat and ordered a whiskey, the men at the bar were little shot of fainting there :)
Very true Anjali- you guys know, even today if I feel like drinking in a wedding or a party i ask my brother or male friend's to go to the bar and get me a drink.
