Pooja Bhasin
Topic owner: Pooja Bhasin: With the recent spate of rape cases in Goa, I feel that it is becoming increasingly unsafe as a tourist destination. With the recent rape case of the Russian girl & then the British girl some time back, this is just getting too common. Goa is really losing its charm.

Chiradeep Majumdar
Chiradeep Majumdar Yes I absolutely agree that Goa has lost its charm. I remember having visited Goa in the year 2000. It was much better. You could get things for cheap, enjoy authentic food and have a nice stay. I recently revisited Goa with my wife, but was shocked to discover such a deterioration. There are hardly a few places where you get authentic Goan food. Shopkeepers, restaurant/shack owners are out there to rob the last penny out of your pockets. What is worse, what they sell if of very poor quality. The food in restaurants/shacks is all but authentic. Yet they charge a bomb for it. What a shame. Hotels do not fall behind, charging ridiculous rents for ramshackle rooms. All this leaves you with a feeling of disgust. I vow never to visit Goa. For those who go gaga over the 'proverbial Goa' I would say....Visit Goa and get fleeced.

World Traveller
World Traveller I have been to goa 7 times in the last 10 years and everytime i have loved it there. Yes there are some disturbing incidents that happen now and then, but they happen in every tourist destination, more so because its known globally. Yes drugs do exist, and so does sex..but isn't it everywhere. Can you tell me that its difficult to get drugs in delhi or mumbai...its the same in goa!

Sach Ka Samna
Sach Ka Samna Foreigners come only for cheap stay, sex, booze and drugs. Lotterting half naked and drunk in night on beaches, stray dogs will eventually bite. Should police spend more time protecting innocent tax payers or irresponsible people from outside? Why they all end up in Goa, why can't they be in decent city at decent times. Even if they behave tis way in their own country, they can get attacked. People in India dont hear that news. Any woman gets herself to drunk and drugged, means she'll end up doing things she'll regret. Why can't they just stay home, cook food and watch TV? Why compete with men in every department?

Cl Si Hi Sach Ka, the drunk ones are Indians. Fearde by locals, foreigners. One beer is sometimes too much. They start giggling, playing like kids or homosexuals and drown in 15 centimeter deep water - when the foreigners don't save them. foreign girls have to run away - cause the kingfisher makes a brave bombay baba feeling looking like SRK. And molesting those one with white skin - up to the mentioned cases of rape.
Best solution: All Indians stay at home cooking and watching TV. Only those ones with a permit by foreigners shouls be allowed to go out into "the wild"

Kishore Kant
Kishore Kant Scarlett & the Russian girls' cases were just exceptions rather than rules. We can't say that it happens all the time, but these 2 incidents really did shock everyone. Needless to say, this will definitely affect Goa's pure, pristine & untarnished image till now. International tourists will now be a little wary of planning holidays there. But for locals who know India & love Goa, it will make no difference.

Kiran Chawla
Kiran Chawla Yes, I think it's very unsafe. There are many hippies who hang around at night clubs, so it's a little scary coz you need to be very careful. I remember once I had gone with my friends & we were partying at a club at night. The people there were mixing weird stuff in people's drinks & serving them (might have even been drugs). That was a scary incident & it happens quite often in Goa. I think people need to be really careful when visiting. I think it's pretty unsafe!

Supriya Lal
Supriya Lal No I don't think so. Just a few cases have come into the spotlight now, just b'coz foreign tourists were involved. But such cases are so common in big metros like Delhi. So why are we singling out Goa?
