'New Delhi' vs 'Dilli': Which side are you?

Topic owner: Volker Hagen: I have been there during the change of names of cities in different countries. As a born German after the fall of the BerlinWall in Germany they changed political doctrined names like Karl-Marx-Stadt to the old common names like Halle etc. I have been in former Stalingrad in Russia as the City get his old name after Czar Pieter the Great back. Politcal pride and power gave this cities for a short time other names as the old used trough history. At present I live most of the year in South Africa. We have here 8 Bantu -native african- and two european languages in official use. South Africa has no real History. 500 years ago the country was emty. Now the Capital city here is offically called Zwane, but everybody uses the old name Pretoria. Most of the cities here are founded though settlers and they named this places. They have no other historic background. Now this cities shall get african names. Names after what, after fairytales in the head of politicans. Big Cities like Dehli have international names. Names which are common all over the world. New York is New York, London is London, Santiago de Chile is Santiago de Chile in their own language and in the heart of many millions in many different countries. If you would like change historic names you have also a bad smell in the mouth of many people all over the world. The name Dehli is for me and for many others all over the world a feeling its like a poem that you never forget.
