This is a a very important issue and may be now a day less sensitive issue then it was few years back. youth is quite aware and they do insist , the one who dont volunteer are the ones who know their hiv status (may a times hiv +). I think now a day elder should come out of their shells and suggest these tests.

being a doctor i would add a few more test to these which include

1. HIV

2. Hemoglobin electrophoresis

3. VDRL

these test should be considered as medical Kundli for compatibility. ;)

@Kainat Totally respecting your view point..yes this is a Hippocratic male dominated society..but..but...but the discussion here is open to both genders. You would agree always males are seen as the carrier of the AIDS virus (which is true to a large extend) but effected population is of equal quantum. In marriage both are equal partners and we are debating on mandatory and if possible legally binding test for both otherwise it would loose the significance.

And you rightly said it will take strong social & political will to implement such a bold step..

Certainly it should be but tell how many men would nod yes for the same? If your girl asks you for the same would you agree and even if you are willing will your family take it positively. WE live in male dominated society SIR! and even if some people will agree to it I am sure this would be for girls only & not men!!!!!!! Egoistic men!

It seems she is not busy...i can see her post in other discussions.. it just shows what people say before without even thinking and say those things which they cannot back it up.. and for this women consider themself modernized, smart, intelligent...I pity them...they can never move ahead of men....to become stronger you need mental stability and this incidents show the true picture.. i really pity when women OVER ESTIMATE and RATE them self and wander on perfect path...

Girish I liked your starting point of your arguements..

I just want to put a request people who start discussion or people who get responses for their post it will be good if they also response to replies..here i respect if kainat replies to her replies since I see alot fo people who post something rubbish that are targeted badly on certain section of society.. and people reply to it and they do not reply them back. I really wanna see what kainat will say to her replies.

Well Kainat , i guess the person who started this discussion and the person who 1st replied to this topic, are MEN ! So , u see , if 2 men take the pleasure to start and reply to this discussion respectively , before it came to notice of any other FEMALE, you can say there certainly are MEN who are quit concerned about the issues of the Indian society !
So kindly not generalize , otherwise , as you already said that this is a MALE DOMINATED SOCIETY , these men will certainly not think twice in targeting you !
Its the mentality , that says " all men are dogs , and women bitches ! "

@Kainat..i totally respect and agree with your views. yes this society is male dominated and it will require broad minded youth to start this history changing moment. From your post I really sensed alot of hate to men. I am sure you will have your valid reasons.

Coming to your post you said how many men will agree..At least I can assure you one and that is me. A journey of 1000 miles start with single step. and like me I assure you there are alot of young broad and open minded men who are ready to do this step and start the moment. I am positive that may be in not near future but some day certainly this moment will show its results and many many more men would come and do this test.

Once young men change I am sure that even families will change and they will talk about it freely and show enthusiasm and give permission and accept the decision of men(sons) taking this test.

And we must never put such issues like men only and women only. I know women face lot of problems in this men dominated society. Instead of crying and showing anger we must try to change situation and hope for change and that change can be brought when we all come together and that one thing that we can make sure to happen is that you can start bringing that change atleast we can try it.

I certainly agree with the views of Gopala and Girish as well.. Yes it shud b made mandatory HIV check before marriage.. better for beginning of new life.. though in india it wont b readily accepted to be mandatorily done... Even if youth come forward to do this.. its still less chances of it being noticed by all population.. so better is if it becomes a mandatory law to have this check before marriage.. nothing wrong in doing a HIV check.. i dont understand why ppl in india make such a big issue when it comes to HIV checkup.. ?? Anyways if it comes out as a rule then no one can stop india to have a HIV population check and reduction in those numbers..

Hope you all agree with what i said..

Keep posting and KEEP SMILING !!

Yes surpiyaji..I agree with your views...sometimes even though some laws restrict humans freedom and long going tradition we must get laws to stop them like dowry..satti..those cases we can justify with law similarly i feel here also in HIV testing

thanks @Gopala and @Girish.

@Gopala you have a valid point...making law and its enforcement is one thing but youth can come forward voluntarily and do HIV/AIDS test before marriage. LAw makers can definitely use them as an example for the others to follow.

@Girish I agree this will be a strong foundation for any life long relationship and bring in more transparency in our country where arrange marriages still rules.

This is one the discussion post which I liked here and I guess people in India must openly talk about it..I strongly believe YES it must be made law and must make it mandatory. Some people may argue against it but I certainly believe it must be mandatory to handle spread of HIV which is the most important serious problem that world is dealing with and country like India ( I am not sure but I guess India over took China and stands first in population..but I maybe wrong...I may be wrong..) tackling HIV is important and we donot so much HIV protection education and by making HIV testing for marriage as mandatory it will help stopping spreading of HIV to little bit extend...before govt take any steps towards I really like to see our educated open minded youth to follow this step on moral grounds and do HIV tests before marriage. I mean both men and women..since today youth will lead tomorrow's India

I would like to take this opportunity to say AMIT you did good job buddy by starting a post on this issue.

Totally in agreement with @amit and @girish. HIV test should be made mandatory before marriage. This would certainly check the spread to a certain extend.

HIV/AIDS is a killer which do not discriminate between rich/poor, literate/illiterate, male/female.

Right information is the only way to avoid this deadly disease. Join us in spreading the word about prevention of spread of AIDS menace.

Topic to be noted... thanks Amit !

Well , just like other topics , this topic too will have multiple posts , positive and negative. However, i think we gotta be logical in our reasoning. With India on 2nd populated country in the world , we have a major issue of Education and Literacy percentage . Adjoin are spread of HIV among the illiterate as well as the literates. The only way to control and put an end to the deadly virus , is to keep it in check . I say HIV test should be mandatory before marriage only because it keeps a check , and also will be a boon for either of the partner not being cheated by the other , which yet happens in rural India. This also will help in building a strong relationship among the beaus , since this shows transparency in relation. Something similar to knowing each other completely , from the inside to the outside !
