Shailendra Kadam Your first statement is false as every Indian does not have equal right in each and every state. Let us start from the top. You cannot buy any immovable property in Jammu & Kashmir. You also cannot buy immovable property in Himachal Pradesh.
History is proof that the same outsider has not been able to lead his home state to glory, due to political incompetence in his home state, and that Mumbai alongwith other cities in Maharashtra could florish due to the competent and patriotic state governments it has since independence.
If language was not so important then you would not have criticised him on this issue.

Looks like he has done his job well in dividing Mahrashtrians from the Indians. Really sad to realize this. I hope people realize that we are as strong as we are united.Please leave behind an India that our children and future generations can prosper and live peacefully in. Had it been so you will find that if the boss is a non-Maharashtrian he promotes people from his own community only at the cost of other people. What has happened is that if a non-Maharashtrian boss came he employed right from a peon from his home state to the manager's post from his home state and made attempts to make life miserable for Maharashtrian staff, not all of the non-Maharashtrian bosses but about most of them. Shailendra M It's easy to put some sentences here and there without thinking. By taking side with Balasaheb, we are not breaking India into pieces. Also respecting diversity means respecting Marathi language and culture as well, and ensuring that Mumbai remains as much Marathi, as Chennai Tamil and Kolkata Bengali. Marathi people have not taken exclusive rights of worrying about national integrity. It's high time Samajwadi Party and our Hindi bhais and bahenjis also start worrying about national integrity.

A Ahmed Actually I am from Chennai or Madras and no one cares if you call it Madras or Chennai and again tehy dont care if you talk in tamil, telugu, or hindi its all teh same. I actually find Marathi people to be very tolerant and explorers by nature. If they go outside Maharashtra they 'll speak in Hindi or whatever language is spoken. When people come from other states into Maharastra, marathis don't speak marathi but take an effort to talk in common language such as Hindi or English. I have never seen people with non-marathi surnames speak marathi even if they live in Maharashtra for years. Take the example of bollywood which spreads hindi language acrross the globe.How many bollywood producesrs make an effort to contribute to marathi movies which is lost at the expense of bollywood. Why doesn't Abhishek Bachan or Shahrukh khan make a marathi movie. I think people from anywhere can come and stay in Maharashtra but its good to learn the language and respect marathi culture if one has to make Maharashtra as their home. Maharashtra is the richest state in India and deserves respect so people like Thackeray wont complain.

Asd Test Bollywood producers do not make movies in any Indian language other than Hindi, why should marathi be an exception? Do you hear a Bal Subramaniam or Bal Mukerjee complaining? Bollywood by definition is Hindi Film Industry. I am sure there are lot of talented people in Maharashtra who can make Marathi movies. And how are marathi movies suffering coz of bollywood? 2. Already there are many companies and the land is less, so the companies need to move to places where there are less companies and so their will be less burden on a particular piece of land or city.

4. Curbing bribe is possible if you do not want to give do not give, but everything in this world has a price. Learn to get along without bribing.

In fact it is a matter of pride that rest of India likes to be associated with Mumbai. Nobody likes to go and settle in Bihar, but they prefer to come to Maharashtra speaks volumes about the hospitality of Maharashtrians. The same is not true in Kashmir. Sometimes I wonder whether it is part of Inda, as Indians from states other than Kashmir cannot purchase property in Kashmir and our dear national leaders like Mr.Lalu Yadav, Mr.Nitish Kumar, Mr.Abu Azmi, Mr.P. We run a business, we employ many mahrashtrians. We pay our taxes. The real reason for this city's somewat more prosperity compared to the country is it attracts the best talent from everywhere and if you stop that it will stop.

King Khan Please recollect that the so called mubaikars are the first and hopefully the last ones to toss the ill conceived idea of outisider vs mubaikar. Such perversions don't arise in any one of the cities you mentioned like chennai, kolkata etc. When big cities like chennai, kolkata, bengaluru, delhi etc have no problem to welcome people from all over india why do the so called mubaikars have? Kiran K Pai Its just to differentiate different regions. There is no rule in the constitution which states that a person from one region cannot move to another region. he is Independent to stay any where in India. He doesnot need ur someone else's permission.

In my humble opinion, and this is a discussion so we are all here just to offer our opinions, I feel that Sachin Tendulkar was actually quite brave in commenting the way he did. He didn't have to say anything about the topic. He usually stays well clear of any controversies. The fact that he did say it means that he feels strongly about it and wanted the Indian people, Marathis included, to hear it. It wasn't apolitical statement, it was his opinion.
His exact words were "Mumbai belongs to India and that is how I look at it. I am a Maharashtrian and I am extremely proud of that, but I am an Indian."
That to me does not look like a political statement, merely one's own personal belief. It was infact made a political issue when Mr. Thackeray commented on it the way he did. Also, to be noted is the fact that Mr. Thackeray did not say anything about the issue in his statement, he merely made it into a personal attack against Sachin who by his own admission is very proud to be Maharashtrian.
Also, reading everybody's posts here I felt that most people do not appreciate the fact that Mumbai or Maharashtra would not have been what it is today without the influx of skilled people from other parts of the country. This is true for any big city/metropolitan in the world. In my opinion (again this is just an opinion) Maharashtrians have/ had no problems with skilled labour or intellectuals moving from other parts of the country to Mumbai. They now have a problem with the unskilled labour coming into the city and increasing the population or people coming from other parts of the country and taking "Marathi jobs". What they need to realise is that Mumbai would not have as many jobs/opportunities if the initial influx of skilled labour hadn't occurred. Even today when companies from other parts of India or International companies open their offices or factories in Maharashtra they are creating jobs. In a globalized economy it would be a folly for a state to restrict the influx or the outflow of jobs/companies/people.
As the saying goes "You cannot have the cake and eat it too". Maharashtrians cannot get the skilled labour without getting the unskilled labour too. If they try to restrict the number of people migrating to Mumbai they will also severely restrict the economic growth of the city, all of Maharashtra and all of India as Mumbai is the biggest port of India and the economic capital of the country.
Yes, the population will increase but it can be handled, as can be seen by bigger cities in the world. Aren't Shanghai, Hong Kong and New York surviving? The growth does not need to slow down, the administration needs to catch up with it.
Just my two cents worth.

Reddy brother's in Karnataka , Madhu Koda in Jharkhand still represent the 50 years back India. Solving issues by discussion is rare in politics, even Parliament can't conduct those discussion successfully then how can we expect same on public dais.
America takes almost 250 years to become what is it now, and India is just taking baby steps towards World Power.

I was pointing it out for everybody (including myself) when I said that we need to focus more on what the topic of discussion is. I agree with you when you say that every Indian has freedom of speech and if Mr. Thackeray criticized Sachin so what. The problem is not that he criticized Sachin's view, he criticized Sachin Tendulkar. So it went from being a fair criticism to a personal attack on Sachin Tendulkar. Even if you don't believe Sachin is the best cricketer in the World I think it is beyond argument that he is the best sportsman in India. The manner in which he conducts himself and his humility and selflessness have set the standards for sportsmen in India at such high standards.
If we now move on to what everybody in here is arguing about. We come to the deadlock that you believe that the number of unskilled people coming into Mumbai should be restricted. I on the other hand believe that this cannot be done without also posing restrictions on skilled people as well. If this is done then this will restrict the growth of Mumbai and India and eventually Mumbai will shrink and become a shadow of its former self. I say this because no city in the world is self-sufficient. Every city needs resources produced in other parts of the country or the world.
I agree with you when you say Mumbai is reaching the point where something needs to be done. I just disagree that the something needs to be stopping people from moving freely in their own country. Instead something needs to be done on the drawing boards of the city planning committees. You are right when you say Mumbai is a safer place to live than Delhi. I myself am from Delhi and I agree it is not safe for women or even men for that matter [:D]. Mumbai does not have to become like Delhi though. Even now Mumbai has a significantly higher population density than Delhi and it deals with the crime rate much better. Delhi is far from being an ideal city. It has great potential and some of that potential is getting realized with the work going on to make it ready for the Commonwealth Games but it is still too little.
The way our Governments think about city planning needs a complete revamp. Why do we train thousands of engineers every year but if you look for a city planning or urban planning course at a good university you would be hard pressed to find one. Our city planning focuses on problem solving rather than anticipating the problems and planning ahead which is what it should be. Even if this technique were to employed from now on all our major cities would be much better places to live in 10 years because lets face it our population is only going one way (UP!).

I appreciate your thoughts, and sorry for distracted from the issue which you pointed at the end. But partially I was writing for all the readers whoever had wrote the reply on blog. But now onwards I will discuss on your points only.
If we are discussing on the ' whether Mr. Bal Thakre was correct in criticizing Sachin?'
Then first of all, if our whole discussion will end up in concluding Each citizen of India have rights to travel & stay anywhere in India", then I would like to start with ' Every citizen have right to speak or criticize other' whether that 'other' includes Government or Sachin or anyone. So round around if Mr. Bal Thakre criticize Sachin's comment then whats the problem?
Yeah then problem will lie on the issue being criticize, and the issue was 'Mumbai belongs to all Indians". And we again came to the same point which is why MNS & Sena protesting on the issue?
Firstly, whether it is Sena or MNS no one fighting for real rights, they only do it for stunts or Votes, so though I am sentimental about the Mr. Thakre I am aware of the fact that he wont brought corruption less government. And I am cent percent sure that there is no one better in government than Honorable PM Manmohan Singh who didnt take his sallery for 18 years of his service. I am completely agree with you on this issue.
But when you talk about what Maharashtra have becomes today is because of influx into the state partially or completely then it looks insane.Because you are not able to understand the roots. OK forget about the roots I will give you one example "why is it in Delhi women restricted go out of their home after evening & in Mumbai you can see women working till 11pm at least" i.e. Mumbai is safeer than Delhi to live.(If you dont agree on this fact then I cant help you, because then you have to stay in Mumbai ).
So my point is that what matters to city is the people who live, they make the city inhabitable, they make it home & the better living place. So to the matter of fact though Marathi's were not sole trader before Independence but they were MANGO PEOPLE of city. They made the difference, with effluent culture & ethnicity.

So my point is that there is no matter about the other North Indian people living in the city who pays TAX,they have right to stay anywhere in India, truly. Even I have many friends who are non-marathi speaking, it doesn't matter.
But when politics comes into these problems it becomes wound, Why you think Shiv sena established? the reason is same , people start to realize that there should be someone who cares for our rights. There very deep reason into this outrage.

I appreciate your thoughts, and sorry for distracted from the issue which you pointed at the end. But partially I was writing for all the readers whoever had wrote the reply on blog. But now onwards I will discuss on your points only.
If we are discussing on the ' whether Mr. Bal Thakre was correct in criticizing Sachin?'
Then first of all, if our whole discussion will end up in concluding Each citizen of India have rights to travel & stay anywhere in India", then I would like to start with ' Every citizen have right to speak or criticize other' whether that 'other' includes Government or Sachin or anyone. So round around if Mr. Bal Thakre criticize Sachin's comment then whats the problem?
Yeah then problem will lie on the issue being criticize, and the issue was 'Mumbai belongs to all Indians". And we again came to the same point which is why MNS & Sena protesting on the issue?
Firstly, whether it is Sena or MNS no one fighting for real rights, they only do it for stunts or Votes, so though I am sentimental about the Mr. Thakre I am aware of the fact that he wont brought corruption less government. And I am cent percent sure that there is no one better in government than Honorable PM Manmohan Singh who didnt take his sallery for 18 years of his service. I am completely agree with you on this issue.
But when you talk about what Maharashtra have becomes today is because of influx into the state partially or completely then it looks insane.Because you are not able to understand the roots. OK forget about the roots I will give you one example "why is it in Delhi women restricted go out of their home after evening & in Mumbai you can see women working till 11pm at least" i.e. Mumbai is safeer than Delhi to live.(If you dont agree on this fact then I cant help you, because then you have to stay in Mumbai ).
So my point is that what matters to city is the people who live, they make the city inhabitable, they make it home & the better living place. I do not blindly believe the words read in the newspaper. For Sachin's comments I watched the press conference to find out what exactly he had said and reproduced it here. Didn't Bal Thackeray say that by making this remarks Sachin has moved on to the political pitch and he has got run-out on the pitch of Marathi psyche?
Sachin was asked a question as a prominent Marathi and he gave his opinion about it. He said this is how I feel. He didn't say this is how it should be or anything. He was asked about his opinion and he gave it. Which makes you wonder why Mr. Thackeray had to comment on it at all. I dont understand why this has become a big issue. Sachin said something when he was excited about his feat and I am sure he didnt mean anything when he said it. But what was the need for Bal Thackeray to make it a big issue? Well he didnt have to comment on what Sachin said at all. It did not have anything to o with him. We must understand why people like Thackeray are able to create divide among Indians. India belongs to everyone and Maharashtra is part of India. However, if all skilled force migrates from other states into one state then unskilled people in both state will suffer. People should have freedom to move not because they have no jobs or choice in their state. Government must address migration displacements issues instead of tempers and emotions running high. No one wants one section of India prosperous and other states living in poverty.Equal investments and opportuinties in each state can address mas migration displacements. Therefore, people only move for right reasons and not create saturation in one place. If these issues are addressed then in longer run, India wil have less insecurities within its states. We must also secure our Borders and Home security as a nation. As a marathi, I am proud of what Sachin said. Everyone Indian can go where he wants. A Tamilian or UP has every right to be in Maharashtra as Marathis do.

Very unfortunate and uncalled for comments by Thackeray. It's really a pity how we allow ourselves to be divided by these netas political agendas. When will we rise above such little things and think big. Modern day Maharashtra (or for that matter any other state or city) is built by blood, sweat, heart and soul of Indians including regional ppl.
