Topic owner: Kirti Goyal: most of the time the movie version of books show and tell 1/4th of the story and Films leave little to our the viewers imaginations. But when you read a book, you create your own movie in your own way. You imagine how the characters speak, what they look like, and what their surroundings are like. This whole process of imagining and interpreting is not only a creative process but a very unique experience in itself, different from viewing a film. Though my list of fav. books chosen for movie screening and proved a complete disaster is quite long but still to name a few Harry Potter (series)

i am agree with you that books are better than movies because from movies i don't get any inspiration from movies but i get inspiration from books of Swami Vivekanand, Swami Dyanand, Vigyan ki kashoti par yog etc.

As of my experience whenever i read a book and then went for the movies, the movie disappoints me a lot. So as for me Books are better than a movie.

Assuming a person with a generic affinity for both reading books and watching movies, it can be concluded that its better to watch a movie than to read the entire book; especially the hyped and popular 'stories' like the Harry Potter series, Dan Brown series etc. But the fanatic readers (as I am) may disagree.
I believe that those who watch the movie and have never read the corresponding book(s) unknowingly miss the fun associated with those little details and the joy of imagining the characters / scenes and situations by themselves.
The problem with reading books though as most of you (shall) agree to is their demanding nature; reading a book demands spending time and undoubtedly banks on the individuals interest in reading.

Why we waste our time to read books when we have same option to watch movie on that book, but can you tell me any book that on any movie. Answer is 'NO' but why because the movie maker haven't any thought or no imagination, they are only able to copy paste the predefined story. And they hide all the theme of the story to make his movie more interesting and commercial to earn more and more profit but they didn't give nay message.
Now it's upto you go with real thought or with misguided thought.

I love watching movies than reading books and books are not as good as the movies, If you can finish a movie in 2-3 hrs then why to waste days and days in reading books without any pics. Boring!

I read Forest Gump and thought the movie was much better. I liked Tom's character more in the movie - they made him more of a wide-eyed-innocent. I found him much less likable in the book. :)

Yeah very true topic of discussion and i totally agree.I was very disappointed with "twilight." ( the film) however i have read the full series of books and found them amazing. Also I feel that robert pattinson was completely the wrong person to portray edward cullen and that Kirsten Stuart is far too miserable and sullen to play bella

I am a firm believer in the idea that reading a book is better than watching a film, because it allows your own imagination to make marvelous worlds and characters. Nevertheless, I concede that on a number of occasions, a film director has managed to take a great book and make it an even greater movie – sometimes it is better for us to watch the creations of someone else’s imagination. Like my fav's- Psycho, Jaws, Silence of the Lambs and The Godfather.

I have not seen much movies that are better than the book...but still, i think the new adaptation of "Pride & Prejudice" with Keira Knightley was a grand effort that i thoroughly enjoyed and Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy" ,although skipping alot on the history of Middle Earth (understandably) is my favourite movie adaptation of a book so much so that I have the DVDs as well as the book.
Dilnaz Seth I agree with you, The Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of the few cases of movies that I've loved and I could never get through the books.

The Princess Bride comes to mind.. if i were to stage an example.
Manpreet Minhas Till date only movie adaptation of a book Which I have liked is Gone With The Wind. The Film truly depicts scene by scene of the book beautifully. In modern hectic times reading a classics like Gone With The Wind is very difficult if not impossible. So if you can see a very well made film on a classic then it is wonderful experience.
